HAWICK AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY

MARCH 2000 PRODUCTION

MONDAY 13th TO SATURDAY 18th MARCH 2000

CALAMITY JANE promises the men of Deadwood City that she will bring a famous actress to “The Golden Garter”. She travels to Chicago and mistakes Katie Brown,  a dresser, for the famous Adelaide Adams and arrives with her at the ‘Golden’  Katie is recognised as an imposter by Francis Fryer, an actor, but after a hesitant start wins over the men with her singing. Lt. Danny Gilmartin (the man Calamity loves) and Wild Bill Hickock both fall for Katie. She encourages the wild Calamity to become more feminine and all four agree to go to the dance at  Fort Scully. The transformation in Calamity is amazing. She is admired by all the men there. Whilst at the dance Danny and Katie express their love for each  other. Calamity learns of this, becomes very jealous and tells Katie to leave  town. While being consoled by Wild Bill she realises it is really him she loves and brings Katie back to Danny.
