It was the one Hawick audiences wanted to see....
and they certainly weren't disappointed |
GOING WILD FOR WESTERN ROMANCE
HAWICK Amateur Operatic Society again excelled itself this week
when it took to the stage to perform the 1950's smash-hit "Calamity
Jane".Renowned for its performances of high class popular
shows, this was the team's debut in the ever-colourful and
extremely lively production. and what a debut it was! Not only did
the company live up to the Town Hall audience's expectations, they
surpassed them, with both cast and crew excelling in every way.
From the stage settings to the choreography, the show proved an
enormous hit.

Its congrats on Operatic Society's "Calamity"!
Many a mile has been travelled since the Deadwood Stage last appeared
in Hawick. The long-gone Pavilion Cinema was its stopping point,
and riding along were Hollywood stars Doris Day and Howard Keel
in the popular Warner Brothers movie, "Calamity Jane."
today the venue is not "The Piv" but the Town Hall
stage where this charming musical of love and romance in the
gun blazing days of the Wild West is back with a bang.
Hawick Amateur Operatic Society's first ever production of
Calamity Jane has proved to be a sure-shot winner which has captivated
and delighted the Town Hall audiences since its opening on Monday
evening. fast flowing, colourful, and pleasing to the eye, it conjures
up a host of golden moments to treasure. Through her positive, pacey
but smooth direction producer Jean Wintrope rustles up everything
she could have wished for. The leading parts and everyone from the
saloon girls and the cowboys to those in supporting roles
combined expertly to make this a production with a stampeding
impact.
